Thursday Sips & Nibbles

I'm back again with a new edition of Sips & Nibbles, my regular column where I highlight some interesting, upcoming food and drink events. I hope everyone dines out safely, tips well and are nice to their servers.

1) The Thirsty Scholar Pub in Somerville is excited to reopen its doors in December to welcome locals and college students back to unwind at the end of the day, catch a game or join a group of friends on the weekends and enjoy a few drinks and delicious pub-style food. The Iconic neighborhood soccer pub was closed for eight months due to updates and COVID-19 hardships. These updates were performed to give the establishment a modern feel while keeping its traditional Irish soccer pub integrity.

The reopening comes at a perfect time as the English Premier League soccer season and 2022 World Cup qualifying matches are in full swing. The revamped sports bar will continue to feature its excellent craft beer selection from around the country (including Exciting Craft Beers, Hoppy IPAs, Refreshing Hefeweizens, and Summer Ales, Rich Porters and Stouts, Crisp Lagers) and a delicious menu of food and appetizers made with the freshest ingredients.

2) For the month of December, Kane’s Donuts will celebrate the holidays with three December flavors of the month: Red Velvet Glazed, Gingerbread, and Eggnog. They will be available the entire month of December at all three Kane’s locations.

The Red Velvet Glazed Donut is a holiday classic at Kane’s featuring chocolatey, red velvet cake-style dough enrobed in their signature honey-dip glaze. The Gingerbread Donut is based on an old New England recipe that is heavy on comforting ginger. Studded with crystalized ginger for extra warmth, this cake-style donut is bathed in Kane’s honey-dip glaze and finished with a vanilla icing drizzle and a pinch of seasonal sprinkles. The Eggnog Donut is a buttery cake-style donut, rich from extra local everything: local eggnog from Pure Country Dairy, and even extra Pete & Gerry’s Organic Eggs, for a richer dessert. A dollop of buttercream mixed with marshmallow fluff (and a nutmeg sprinkle) tops it off.

3) Cozy up at Time Out Market Boston as it transforms into a winter wonderland this season. Decked out in wintery-themed decor by CityScapes, the 14 Market eateries includes highlights such as Kured’s new Grilled Cheese sandwiches - The BIG Cheese (Parmesean crusted grilled cheese with caramelized onion, Cheddar and Triple Play Parmesean on sourdough) and The Seasonal (sage cheddar, fennel salami and apple butter on Cranberry sourdough bread), Halva Honey Pistachio Sufganiyot from Union Square Donuts, and Gelato & Chill’s Sundae Kits.

On December 4, check out the Boston Women’s Holiday Market. This will bring a flurry of independent businesses together for a special holiday market at 401 Park Drive. Peruse all kinds of goods and items to give to your loved ones this season, from 12pm—5 pm, with live music from Patrick & Kate from 1pm—4 pm. Amongst the vendors, you can expect: Peshtemal Collection, Avu Jewelry, Louis Sel LLC, Vibes Candles, Lady Jane Maker, Nabia Designs, Sarah Dudek Design, Itsmine Boston, Juniper and Buttercup.
