Glory

(Originally posted 7/30/06)

For dinner last evening, we went to Glory, a restaurant in Andover. I had been there once before numerous months ago and did enjoy it. Glory has a bar section, a dining section and an area for private parties. The dining area is more intimate, with lots of candles. It is tastefully decorated and has a nice ambiance.

They had recently changed to their summer menu. It had alot of different choices, appetizers ranging $10-15 and entrees at $17-35. The cuisine is seems mainly a blend of some Italian and Asian influences, as well as a few others.

I began with the tuna tempura, several fairly thick pieces of sliced rare tuna, with a tempura batter on the edge. They were very fresh, silky smooth with a nice crisp tempura. Delicious and highly recommended. For entrees, my wife had the beef tenderloin with roasted fingerling potatoes and watercress salad. The tenderloin was good-sized, tender and tasty. It was everything a tenderloin should be. And the potatoes were also very well done, with a nice crispy exterior and soft potato inside. My entree was a lobster fra diavolo with saffron tagliatelle and corn. This dish was very delicious. The diavolo sauce was a bit spicy but not really intimidatingly hot as some can be. So, it is a sauce that most people would enjoy. The tagliatelle had an intriguing taste with the touch of saffron. My only complaint is that there was not alot of lobster in the dish, and for $27, I expected more.

The wine list has a decent selection of wines, with alot of Italian and California wines. I ordered the 2003 Guigal Gigondas, a French Rhone wine ($50) that is equal parts Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache. It is an excellent wine, smooth and with a long finish. It accompanies most foods well.

For dessert, I had a banana cake, topped with carmelized banana slices, caramel sauce and coconut ice cream. A superb dessert!! All of my favorite flavors, in a well designed dessert. The cake was moist and flavorful. Everything just worked well. Highly recommended!!!

Service was very good. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.
