Angela's Coal Fired Pizza

Another new restaurant, Angela's Coal Fired Pizza, has recently opened in Saugus on Rt.1. It is located in the same shopping plaza as the new Midwest Grill, not too far from Kowloon's. It is open seven days a week, from 11am-Midnight.

I have not eaten there yet, though will likely do so this week. But, I did grab a copy of their menu.

Their basic coal-fired pizza costs $10.50 for a small and $13.50 for a large. This seems a bit pricey. Toppings cost $1.50 (small) or $2.50 (large). There are 10 toppings available, four meats and six veggies. This includes sausage, prosciutto, pepperoni, meatballs, anchovies, peppers, onions and mushrooms. They also have six Specialty pizzas for $15.50 (small) and $18.50 (large).

They have an Italian salad, made for two ($9), and coal oven roasted chicken wings, with onions and foccacia ($8.50/small and $14.95/large). They also have three different Sandwichs ($8.50) including Chicken Parmesan and Caprese. There is a Calzone ($10.95) with Italian meats and cheeses.

The menu lists beer and wine available, as well as their own Sangria, a blend of red Italian wine and fruit juices.

It will be interesting to see whether the food is worth the price.

  1. Great Pizza! You could taste the freshness of the ingredients. I was a little skeptical of the "coal-fired" cooking, but it created a pizza that was well cooked (not burnt like Bertucci's) and a dough that was still chewey (not hard and crusty).

    The coal-fired wings were also worth going back for. The seasoning was just right (not too spicy or greasy). The wings were juicy and cooked right through.

    The Sangria was also worth trying. We went through two pitchers of it! I will definitely return.

  2. I made my first visit to Angela's this weekend and it won't be my last. This was the best tasting pizza I've ever had. The ingredients are very fresh, spices are not overdone, and the crust was fabulous, like a fine chewy bread. The toppings on the pizza are in very generous quantities. The wings were great, seasoned just right, and nice and juicy. The sangria was excellent -- not overly sweet. It goes down very easily! The service was great, the atmosphere more elegant than one would expect in a pizza restaurant. We will definitely be going back soon.

  3. Disappointed! Although the pizza crust was admirably thin and nicely browned at the edges it was far from crisp, even soggy underneath. The plain cheese and tomato toping was tasty enough and fresh and not in excess. The decor is "Franchise Artificial" and somewhat antiseptic. The 10-inch pizza and a Coke cost $13.65 at lunch which is not justified considering the quality. My standard for excellence (10) is the pizza from Al Forno in Providence and on this scale Angela's gets no more than 5 or 6.

  4. I dined at Angela's on Saturday night and was amazed to find that both the pizza and the wings were fabulous. I am a critic when it comes to cooking, being Italian and brought up with good home cooking. Angela's has it all. Excellent food, great atmosphere(even all the other customers who were dining there were friendly), professional and polite servers,and I even got the pleasure of meeting "Angela", who treated me like family. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large so you need to come with a big appetite. I haven't tried everything on the menu yet, but I plan to.
