Backyard Beauties & BBQ Sauce

Ok, it is not really the BBQ season here yet. Though Spring is almost here which means Summer and BBQ weather is not too far off. So, to get you in the mood for warmer weather, let me present a recipe for BBQ sauce. In addition, let me also tell you about some "green" tomatoes.

Backyard Farms, located in Maine, grows tomatoes, called Backyard Beauties. These tomatoes are grown in the largest greenhouse in New England and are available year-round. The greenhouse contains one million square feet of growing area. Their website states the greenhouse is twenty times more productive per acre than a normal farm. Plus, the greenhouse is very eco-friendly.

The tomatoes are shipped within one day of harvest. And as they are local, there is a diminished carbon footprint for transportation as compared to tomatoes imported from other countries. They are available in many local stores including places such as Hannaford, Shaws, Stop & Shop and Whole Foods.

They even have shared a recipe for BBQ sauce. Why not save it for summer? Or even try it now on some roasted chicken or steak tips?
