French Rhone Wine Class: March 22

Gordons Fine Wine and Culinary Center in Waltham will be holding a wine class, Rhone: Evolution in the Face of Global Warming, on March 22 from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm.

The class is being run by Nick Cobb, who should run an informative and fun class. Though the title of this tasting sounds like a scientific dissertation it is really an excuse to taste some exceptional wines from a region with a rich history that produces a surprisingly wide variety of wines. It happens that the southern Rhone is a case study in the effect of global warming on wine production. How the region has evolved and adapted has resulted is as various as the styles of wine produced there.

We will taste modern wines designed to capture historical character, traditional wines that climate changes have made more "modern" and Parker friendly, old-vine cabernet from a region that produces no cabernet and highlight the amazing variety of expression that is "Cotes du Rhone." All the wines are from highly respected small producers and have two things in common: high quality and delicious flavor profiles. Another bonus: wines from the southern Rhone still provide some of the value for money anywhere.

The wines:
06 Vieille Julienne rose
05 Dom. de Deurre Vinsobres
05 Lucien Barrot CndP
05 Piaugier CDR
05 Vieille Julienne cdr "Clavin"
05 Lesec CdR Rubis
05 Dom de la Solitude CndP
05 Lesec Rubis CndP

I will be leading a group of the North Shore Winers to this event and I am very much looking forward to it. There are a few spaces still available but sign up soon if you want to go. Either register online or by calling Gordon's. The cost of the class is $30 per person.
