Abbicci on Cape Cod

Seeking a restaurant while you are vacationing on Cape Cod? Why not try Abbicci?

Located in Yarmouthport, Abbicci is a Mediterranean Bistro and they now have a new Executive Chef. David Schneller, who has spent the past four years as sous chef at the much-acclaimed Arrows restaurant in Ogunquit, Maine, has Abbicci as their Executive Chef.

A CIA graduate and a strong proponent of local sourcing, he’s already formed alliances with some of the Cape’s growers, fishermen, foragers and food artisans. Schneller plans to expand Abbicci’s Italianate menu to include flavors and dishes from other Mediterranean countries, including Spain, Greece and Turkey. The wine list will be similarly broadened.

Also joining the team will be Emily Garrett as Pastry Chef, who will be producing artisinal breads as well as a full dessert menu.

The menu is also being modified some. Proprietor Marietta Hickey has been hearing from her customers that they want more choices and more flavor combined with smaller portions and smaller prices.

So, entrees like veal saltimbocca and whole baked fish, while still available, are likely to take a back seat to mid-sized courses like postage stamp ravioli, baked Wellfleet oysters, sirloin carpaccio, plus an array of tapas – from house-cured salumi to arrancini -- that has grown to require its own separate menu. Prices range from $5-10 for tapas to a high of around $30 for Atlantic halibut with gnocchi, peas and morel gravy.

Abbicci has also re-instituted its popular Early Evening Dinner menu for vacationers with nighttime plans; a limited selection of entrees priced $25 or less, accompanied by salad and dessert.

Valet parking is complimentary. Sunday Brunch with live music from 12 noon to 3:00 PM is also available. Lunch is no longer served.

New on their menu for Early Summer will be:
· Bufala Mozzarella di Campagnia with shaved asparagus, blood orange vinaigrette
· Barnstable Oysters with gratin of leek, pancetta & Pernod
· Wellfleet Oysters with pickled celery
· Bibb Lettuce Salad with buttermilk blue cheese dressing & pickled grapefruit zest
· Seared Scallops over Fava Beans with Pancetta and Truffle Sabayon
· English Pea Soup with crème fraiche and mint-radish salsa
· Imported cheese like Sicilian pecorino, and parmigiano-reggiano with honeycomb
