Eastern Standard: A Speakeasy

Come experience Eastern Standard as you’ve never experienced it before as it transforms into a speakeasy in honor of author Garrett Peck’s new book The Prohibition Hangover: Alcohol in America from Demon Rum to Cult Cabernet. Peck is a freelance writer for the alcoholic beverage industry and public speaker on alcohol issues. The Prohibition Hangover is about the changing role of alcohol in American society since Repeal.

At Eastern Standrd, enjoy cocktail samples, hors d’oeuvres from the period, and a full cash bar where you can try all of your Prohibition-era favorites. Also, a lively discussion, led by Peck, will look at Prohibition’s legacy and how far we’ve come in 75 years. Peck’s humorous look at the inconsistencies and awkwardness that Prohibition left us with, including answering questions such as: why do we have dry counties, why people in CT can’t buy booze on Sundays, and why do we drink beer with baseball?
