It is a simple rule. If you have had too much to drink, don't drive. Any questions?
During this holiday season, there is plenty of celebrating, and alcohol may be involved, from beer to wine, from cocktails to shots. There is certainly nothing wrong with having a drink or two. There is even nothing wrong with having three or more drinks. Just don't drive afterwards.
We all know the dangers of drinking and driving. We endanger our lives and the lives of others. Every year, the newspapers report about the terrible auto accidents, some with fatalities, that occur because a driver was intoxicated. So why don't we learn better? Even if you don't get in an accident, you might get arrested for drunk driving, with all the attendant costs. You might even end up in jail.
If there is any question whether you are too intoxicated to drive, then don't. If your family or friends think you have had too much to drink, don't drive. Just don't.
I don't want to lose any family or friends this year due to a drunk driving accident. So please just don't!
Yes! Drinking and driving is one of those things that only takes one time to completely ruin lives.
ReplyDeleteDON'T DO IT!
Richard-- I completely agree with you. All too often, people are too scared to sacrifice their "good time" to really care about how they're getting home. My coworker and I had a debate regarding the ignition locks being placed in DUI offenders cars in some states. I'm all for them, if you can't be responsible enough to abide by the laws of driving for the safety of yourself and others, clearly a second party must step up to the plate.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem with ignition locks is that it is incredibly easy for someone else to just blow into the device and start your car. It does instill some fear, but I just see people getting around it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Not many would think to blog about it, but I thank you for it.
ReplyDeleteAbout 15 years ago I lost a dear cousin to the whims of a drunk driver. That horrible accident left his 2 beautiful children without a father and turned a wife into a widow. His memory is my reminder to do right by others. No one should have to go through what his family did.
Hi Richard -- great point. As a retailer, I am always aware of the danger of drinking and driving. Of course, in the store isn't always the time and/or place, so I always put in my holiday posts (and previous eletters) to always drink responsibly - don't drink and drive. It's so easy to throw caution to the wind... thanks for posting that. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the supportive comments. We all need to think about this issue, especially at this time of year with all the celebrations. No one should have to lose a loved one due to actions which are preventable.
