I love breakfast food, whether it is actually for breakfast or even if I have it for dinner. So when I travel to a new city, I am always interested as to their breakfast options. While in Paso Robles, it was no different and I was very fortunate to find some delicious places. You never know what you might stumble upon while exploring a city.
Fresh Donuts! That is not only what I found here, but it is also their name. This small donut shop had an amazing selection, everything looking fresh and delicious. Besides the usual sized donuts, they also had smaller ones, which you can see on the very bottom shelves above. I had a glazed donut with shredded coconut atop it, and it was superb. Light, airy, and flavorful. I also had one of their smaller, chocolate covered donuts and it too was excellent. As a extra touch, they gave me two glazed donut holes for free, which seemed to be the norm for everyone eating their donuts in the store.
The cinnamon rolls above, sometimes called coffee rolls, certainly look very good. Frankly, these were some of the best donuts I have tasted in quite awhile. Forget Dunkin' Donuts or Honey Dew, these donuts easily put them to shame. If I had not already eaten breakfast before I found this shop, I probably would have tried even more donuts and cinnamon rolls. The owners might not have been very creative with their name, but their creativity does extend to their donuts and pastries. This place gets my highest recommendation.

Prior to my donut foray, I had a full breakfast at Chico's Cafe, which was a short distance from my hotel. At the hotel, I had seen a copy of their breakfast menu and it appealed to me, a diverse selection of the usual breakfast choices, from eggs to waffles, omelets to pancakes. Chico's Cafe is a small restaurant, which apparently has a good reputation for seafood but they don't slack off for breakfast. Prices are reasonable, and portions are sizeable.
I ordered a couple scrambled eggs, with pancakes, bacon and hash browns. The eggs were good, the bacon crisp, and the hash browns sizeable and delicious. The two large pancakes were light and fluffy, just the way I like them. Service was excellent and it was a hearty and satisfying meal. I would return there, and definitely recommend that you check it out.

Though I did not dine at PanOlivo, they did cater a breakfast we had at a winery. What I did get to sample impressed me, and I think it is worthing checking out as well. The ham and cheese quiche was delicious, a very creamy interior with plenty of tender ham and a flaky crust. The mini-croissant was also very flaky, with a buttery and compelling taste. They do have a full breakfast menu, though it is a bit pricey, and I can't say whether the prices are justified. But what I did eat certainly was very satisfying.

ReplyDeleteWent for breakfast this morning, 1-29-12. I had the the, baked goat cheese appetizer (very flavorful) salmon/chive scramble (just o.k.- I was expecting more, but it was as advertized a salmon/chive scramble- light on the chives). Our waitress was friendly but there was a stretch of about 20 mins. where I didn't see her at all. I had to break down and flag her down when I finally saw her again to get a refill on our coffee and orange juice. What was telling about the restaurant was the pre-packaged butter and preserves. I was hoping for some local flavor in both those regards, but no we had to settle for butter pats and Knott's Preserves. The ambiance was good...light and decorated nicely. Out of ten it was a 6.
