I'm back again with a new edition of Sips & Nibbles, my regular column where I highlight some interesting, upcoming food and drink events. I hope everyone dines out safely, tips well and are nice to their servers.

1) On Wednesday, May 14, Chef Kegan Stritchko will welcome sake expert, Yishi Li, to XOXO Sushi Bar in Chestnut Hill for an evening of perfect pairings. Chef Stritchko, a master of jukusei omakase, will be joined by Li, a WSET Level 3 sake professional who holds a Sake Diploma with Japan Sommelier Association, in presenting a 16-course menu complemented by carefully curated sake designed to delight the palate.
Guests will begin the epicurean experience with a Mini Lemon Sour welcome cocktail crafted with Tsuru-Ume Lemon. As Chef Stritchko introduces the first courses – a duo of Island Creek oysters and houbou usuzukuri – Li will guide diners through her sake choice, Ohmine “3 Grain” Omachi with hints of peach, Asian pear, lychee and mandarin orange. To accompany the next bites of ishidai, kasugodai, hon hiramasa and hotaru ika nigiri, guests will sip Kuheiji Sauvage 2023 Junmai Daiginjō made of 100% omachi rice. The fourth beverage is Houou Biden "Asahi Mai" that will be served alongside delicacies of chawanmushi, kamasu and akamutsu. Up next, a collection of sea treasures (chu-toro, otoro, jo uni, negitoro) paired with Akabu “Junmai Daiginjo” followed by courses of bone marrow with uni and an A5 waygu carpaccio served with Nishide 100 Year Junmai Daiginjo. For the finale, a mixed berry cheesecake will be balanced with a taste of “Tsuru-ume” Ichigo, a seasonal strawberry sake.
