The NV Ode Panos Brut is a sparkling wine made primarily from the Moschofilero grape. The sparkling wine is made by the Charmat Method, with the second fermentation lasting about 60 days. This wine had a light yellow color and lots of bubbles. It was mainly a dry wine with only the merest hint of sweetness, and flavors of citrus and lemon. It lacked the yeasty flavor of some Champagnes yet was not as sweet and fruity as a Spanish Cava. An interesting sparkling wine that is worth a try.
The 2005 Red Stag is a red wine made from 100% Agiorgitiko. The wine is aged for twelve months in new French oak and then six months in the bottle. This wine seemed to be made in a more California fruit-forward style. It has bright cherry and vanilla flavors, mild tannins and is very easy drinking. It is a bit tart as well. I was not as impressed with this wine as some of the others I had been tasting as I was seeking a more Greek-style wine rather than an international style wine.
These wines are available through Athenee Importers.
