Thursday Sips & Nibbles

I'm back again with a new edition of Sips & Nibbles, my regular column where I highlight some interesting, upcoming food and drink events. I hope everyone dines out safely, tips well and are nice to their servers.
******************************************************
1) Next week, from November 7-13, is the 9th Annual Sherry Week, a celebration of all things Sherry. There will be hundreds events around the world. Aficionados will be treated to Sherry Wine tasting menus, creative cocktails, masterclasses, and sherry flights, discovering new and unexpected flavour combinations from these incomparably versatile wines, from dry, crisp fino to nutty amontillado and complex, aromatic palo cortado. As always, Sherry Week takes place under the auspices of the D.O. of Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda.

I've a huge Sherry lover, and it's definitely an under-appreciated wine, one that is amazing on its own, but also pairs well with a myriad of foods. Locally, Taberna de Haro always celebrates Sherry Week, so check out their Sherry Week webpage to see how they are celebrating and to learn more about Sherry. Taberna de Haro has the area's largest and best Sherry list, and you'll alway found some delicious and fascinating to taste.

And for more background and education about Sherry, check out my various articles at All About Sherry.

How will you celebrate Sherry Week?

2) Karma Asian Fusion, located at the Burlington Mall, has a couple new offerings. First, they have added the Hakutsuru Chika Saké Cup to their Sake menu. Try the light bodied, yet slightly dry taste with light aromas of honey, sugar, cane, finishing its flavor off layered with roasted, almond and cashews on the nose. The Chika Saké Cup has a deep-rooted origin, aligning with the culture of Karma. The saké pairs well with sushi platters, General Gao’s chicken, or anything you choose from Karma’s menu. Another new edition the new Uni Shooter ($20), a blend of uni, quail egg, caviar, ikura, soy sauce, saké and a momichi.
