L'Express

(Originally posted 4/21/07)

Want a good breakfast in NYC? Then try L'Express, a Lyonnaise bouchon, and its foods celebrate that region. This was my second visit to the restaurant. It is homey type of restaurant, with a bar on one wall and many French themed decorations, such as posters, on the walls. This time, I had the Croque Madame. This was a large, grilled ham and cheese sandwich topped by two eggs over easy. Simple, but absolutely delicious. The bread was obviously homemade and with a perfect crust and moist interior. The ham and cheese certainly seemed of high quality and the ham was not fatty at all. The cheese was Swiss and had a superb taste. And the eggs on top just completed an excellent meal. This was accompanied by some roasted red potatoes.

Service was good. The prices range from about $6-10 for breakfast. It certainly does a good business and seems to cater to locals more than tourists. If you are in NYC, definitely check this place out!
