Reviews of Wines of Portugal

The following is a compilation of old reviews I have done on the wines of Portugal.

2004 Jose Maria Da Fonseca Periquita: Many people may be unfamiliar with the wines of Portugal, but there are some excellent wines there, as well as great value wines. The 2004 Jose Maria Da Fonseca Periquita is one of those great value wines. The Periquita is a blend of three indigenous Portugeuse grapes (70% Castelao; 20% Trincadeira; 10% Aragonez). The taste is very different and has nice fruit and spices flavors. It is a light and smooth wine and would go well with many foods. It is very easy drinking and should please most palates. And at only $10 a bottle, it is a great value! This is a highly recommended Drink and Buy!

2004 Quinta do Coa from Douro: This wine ($16) is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Franca. It is also organic. I liked this wine because it tasted different. There are more dark berry flavors and it does make your mouth pucker a bit. The finish was decent but not overly long. It is a smooth drinking wine and probably would go best with food. Drink and Buy.
